Cormac McCarthy's novel "The Road" shows the aftermath of a post apocalyptic world which holds nothing but hopelessness and despair in  a man and a boy fighting to stay alive. "The Road" gives the reader an imaginative view on how terrible the world is to the extent of what people must go through in order to stay alive and the dangers besides a world without order. The meaning of life changes perspective for the characters in the novel for that will do all that is necessary in order to keep their own and their loved ones life in tact. The father in the novel cares for his son deeply, even in a hopeless world with nothing to offer, he does his best to lift his spirits and keep him life stable. The father does his best to keep him & the boy alive, but to no avail he ultimately dies. McCarthy's uses that demise to illuminate how a parent no matter the circumstances do their best for their children and cares for there life until the end.
McCarthy restores the ideal parent proving that during hard times a parent should be willing to do anything necessary to provide the best well being for their child regardless how the decision will affect them personally. In a world of no order and chaos with the main priority of surviving, the father does stay keen on the little things for caring for the boys sleep. Also in page 23 "He withdrew his slowly and sat looking at a coca cola. what is it papa? Its a treat for you." This expresses to the reader that in a world of scarcity, with so many limited resources, barely anything to be happy for. the father when he found that Coca Cola, probably the only thing left in the world to be happy for, he gives to his son. A loveable thing that he wants to share with the boy instead of keeping it to himself.
Throughout the novel the father and boy go through many difficult things on their path of finding a better place. Seeing countless things that can change a persons view on life and humanity, however the man does his best to keep the boy stable and appreciating life. Always telling the boy that "its going to be Okay, everything is going to be okay." For a child in a world without hope, those words coming from your own father truly does help cope with the fact that life is over and there's nothing else to looking forward to besides death. The support day in and day out from the father gives the boy a purpose to keep on living and to keep searching for a better life. When the father sadly dies, for the boy it seemed like life was over and now it was his turn to taste death. However when the scavengers find the boy and asks him to join them, after grieving about his fathers death he ultimately agrees to go because he knows that's what his father would have wanted.
All in all a parents job is to care & give for their children no matter the circumstances. The father in "The Road" does his job the very best he can until his last breath. McCarthy's uses his death to express the value and true love a father has for his child, to express to readers that when  times get tough our loved ones will always be there for us to support and help us prosper in our ideal future.
